Research
Pricing Regulation and Health Insurance Coverage: Evidence from the ACA's Gender Rating Ban [Job Market Paper]
Presented at APPAM Annual Conference, Boston, MA · 2026
Estimates the effect of the Affordable Care Act's prohibition of gender-based pricing on nongroup health insurance coverage using American Community Survey microdata and a difference-in-differences design. Results show increased coverage among women in states with higher pre-policy exposure to gender rating.
with Elaine M. Liu and Alex Bell · SSRN Working Paper · 2026
IMF–OECD–PIIE–World Bank Conference · APPAM 2026 · AASLE Beijing · GenAI Shanghai
Studies how ChatGPT's release affected firm hiring demand using 115.9 million job postings across 200 economies. Firms primarily adjust along the composition margin, with heterogeneous dynamics across advanced and developing economies.
Generative AI Exposure and Healthcare Hiring: Timing Evidence from Employer Job Postings
Solo-authored · Work in Progress · Dissertation Chapter
Uses a firm-state-occupation-quarter panel of U.S. healthcare job postings from 2018–2026 to estimate how generative AI affected healthcare hiring, separating post-ChatGPT changes from pandemic dynamics and the 2022–2023 white-collar slowdown.
Geographic Mobility and Smoking Behavior: Evidence from the PSID
with Alex Bell · Work in Progress · Dissertation Chapter
Uses longitudinal PSID data to study how migration across local smoking environments affects individual smoking behavior, with strong evidence of exposure effects during adolescence.
